I am Joxean Iraola from Tolosa, Basque Country. As a young man, I practiced Basque pelota, but I had to stop due to an injury. Then I started competing in duathlons and participated in my first Behobia-San Sebastián, where I have now completed 27 editions.
I then ran my first marathon (San Sebastián) in 6 editions, and I was motivated to run my first major in New York, finishing in under three hours. Then came Berlin, London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Porto, Chicago, Boston, and Tokyo.
I have also run half marathons such as San Sebastián (5), Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Porto, Varadero (Cuba), Pamplona, Vitoria, Lisbon, Pyramids of Giza (Egypt), Sydney. I have participated in mountain races, including the Zegama-Aizkorri, which is part of the World Cup. And all this while also pursuing my other passion as a cycle tourist, including the famous Quebrantahuesos (19 editions) and La Marmotte in the French Alps, among many others at the national level.
