Completing marathon number eleven in Reykjavik this August and my twelfth just last week in Toronto were super! Having family support and the fortune of being in great health are blessings I don’t take for granted. Training allows me to focus on self-care, provides space for uninterrupted thinking, and supports keeping blood glucose readings in range as I am an insulin dependent Type One Diabetic. Putting in long weekend runs, easy early morning runs, and cross training, including cycling, kayaking, or skating, all allow me to feel great, show up to the start line with confidence, and work toward improving my times. Running is truly for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you never have, what distance you take on, or how fast you move. What truly matters is that we get out there, put in the work, aim for incremental improvement, and better our health simultaneously. Any one can get crush goals with dedication, perseverance, nutrition, rest, appreciation, and drive. Running also truly brings the world together. If you’re looking for a diverse, multilingual, fun, inspirational, and supportive group of people to spend an energized day with my recommendation is to sign up for your next or your first marathon. All you need to accomplish this goal is 18 weeks to dedicate to training, a willingness to push yourself, and the belief you can and will cross that finish line.
