Billy Marathon Running Story
I didn’t run my first marathon until the age of 53. I was definitely a late bloomer! And my first marathon, Dublin City Marathon, was meant to be a once-off, one to tick off the bucket list. However, I so enjoyed the training, the camaraderie and the routine that I signed up for another marathon, Paris. I had caught the marathon bug!! I ran a few more marathons including a small marathon in a town right in the heart of the countryside. What I hadn’t realised at the time was that this race was actually classed as a Boston Qualifier marathon. Even more surprising was the realisation afterwards that I had achieved a qualifying time for Boston 2015. And so began my six-star journey. I followed up Boston by running the remaining five marathons, Chicago, New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo over the following three years. I received my Six-star medal in 2018. I’m now on my second six-star journey and have completed three of the six races. I will run Berlin in September. I still love the training, even as I’m getting older. Nothing beats the feeling of standing on the start line with thousands of other runners who have also put in the long hours of training to be there. It’s a family!!
